
Artist Preview Tour of Homes in Destin/South Walton The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation and Trustmark Bank presents the Destin Festival Artist Preview Tour of Homes on Saturday, October 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Six fabulous homes and six fine artists will be featured on the tour in Destin at Kelly Plantation, and Regatta Bay; and in South Walton at Grand Dunes andSandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Each of the six homes will feature an artist from the 15th Annual Destin Festival of Arts which will be held on October 23 and 24 at Henderson Beach State Park.
Home tour tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, cash or check only. Vision Church Hosts “Government Sunday” Vision Church @ Christian International on Hwy 98 in Santa Rosa Beach will be hosting Government Sunday on October 10, 2010 at 10:00AM. All candidates in the upcoming November elections from the local level to the governor’s race, as well as all currently elected officials, are invited to attend a special service to introduce themselves to the congregation and other members of the public who wish to attend.
“Vision Church is offering us a unique opportunity to get to know the candidates that are running for our government offices,” said Walton County Commissioner Cecilia Jones. “These are the people that will represent us in decisions that will affect our daily lives. I encourage everyone who plans on voting in this election to come and be involved in Government Sunday and hear what the candidates have to say.”
A special reception will be held following the service that will create a venue for more personal interaction between the candidates, elected officials, and members of the congregation. Silver Sands Celebrates an “Event-Full” October with Inspiring Artwork and Community Events The nation’s largest designer outlet center, Silver Sands Factory Stores on Hwy 98 in Miramar Beach is kicking off fall with the continuation of a nine-year tradition with Beaches of South Walton’s 2008 artist of the year – Donna Burgess.
October is Autumn Tides month at Silver Sands, a signature event designated by Beaches of South Walton that offers shoppers a complimentary, limited edition 2010 Autumn Tides print with every $300 in same-day receipts. In this year’s artwork, “Autumn Inspirations”, Burgess offers a personal and colorful perspective into her creative process while simultaneously capturing the essence of the fall season. This piece completes the current “Autumn Through the Artist’s Eyes” artwork series. Silver Sands is also hosting an Autumn Tides artist signing reception on Saturday, October 9 and October 23. Shoppers may bring their Autumn Tides prints to Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th between 1-4 p.m. to have them personally signed by Burgess and enjoy refreshments.
The second annual Purses for a Purpose event will be held on Saturday, October 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the space between Lacoste and Juicy Couture. The evening includes the auction and sale of new and gently worn designer purses, starting at $5 and food by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. Several Silver Sands stores are observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month with various promotions and events. Throughout the entire month of October, Crabtree & Evelyn will donate $1 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation for every pink, limited-edition ’60-second fix for hands’ kit sold. Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store will donate ten percent of proceeds from their ‘Pink Pony’ products to the Pink Pony fund to support breast cancer programs for early diagnosis, education, treatment and research. In addition, the local Polo Ralph Lauren team will walk the Center prior to opening on Wednesday, October 6 in lock-step with the walk occurring in New York by corporate employees. Also, dressbarn will donate $2 to the American Cancer Society with the sale of every Skye stuffed animal.
