Walton County TDC Hosts Reception Unveiling 2009 Artist of the Year Commissioned Artwork Join the Walton County Tourist Development Council (TDC) and 2009 Artist of the Year, Michael McCarty, for the unveiling of the Beaches of South Walton commissioned artwork. On Friday, December 4, 2009, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the L2 Gallery, located at Ruskin Place in Seaside, the TDC will celebrate McCarty’s year as Artist of the Year and showcase his commissioned work.
“It has been fantastic to work with Michael over the last year,” said Vicki Kitahara, TDC new product manger. “His work is a vibrant, colorful addition to our Art in Public Places program and truly exemplifies Beaches of South Walton’s unique attributes including endangered sea turtles, diverse architecture and special people.”
As Artist of the Year, McCarty created a commissioned piece that will be placed in a public venue as part of the TDC’s Art in Public Places program. McCarty’s painting, “Twenty Six Miles of Paradise,” is a whimsical interpretation of life in Beaches of South Walton. The vivid images and vibrant colors characterize the unique and idyllic features that make Walton County a wonderful place to live and visit. “Twenty-Six Miles of Paradise” will be on display at the L2 Gallery until a permanent location is identified.
McCarty produces contemporary, modern art work and traditionally works with acrylic on canvas, but has been known to experiment with mixed media. His canvases are filled with an abundance of color, sometimes brilliant and sometimes muted, but always interwoven with subtle visual suggestions. His styles range from abstract to figurative to botanical and everything in between.
