with Eric Marcus, Architectural & Fine Art Photographer/Owner
e.m.marcus | photography
After working in the architectural industry in New York City and Florida, local resident Eric Marcus did what many of us dream of doing - he took a leap of faith and pursued his passion and true calling - photography. And the result? In the past year alone, his work has been published in several regional and national magazines and has been noted for several AIA award-winning projects - sweet success! Additionally, his client roster is growing exponentially and he has several projects in the works.
I caught up with Eric for this week's SouthWaltonScene.com Q&A. Enjoy!

How long have you lived in South Walton? You were born and raised in....
Since January 2002...about 7 years now. Born and raised in New York City.
You already live at the beach - where do you vacation?
Vacation?!! What's that!? Lately a vacation is what I take when I'm on the way 'to do' something else. Right now though, my Significant Other and I are going to AZ for her graduation ceremony. Plan to make it a little road trip- sight-seeing-camping experience. So..that'll be a vacation of sorts, right?
What book(s) is on your nightstand?
I have several as I can't seem to finish anything I start. A Short History of Everything by Bryson; In Defense of Food by Michael Pollen; ..this is what's up there now. (continued below)
If you were to come back as someone else, who would you be?
Oh..that's easy. Benjamin Franklin: A Philosopher; a farmer; an inventor; a Politician; an author; a revolutionist; a Historian; a world traveler...and a 'lady's man' up until his death. :]
What is your single greatest achievement so far?
Being pushed into going out on my own as a photographer - that would be my greatest 'career' achievement.
What is your favorite restaurant in South Walton?
I would have to say, Borago. My fiancée and I had our first date there....that place has a special meaning for us. Not to mention the food is fantastic. But really, the truth is my favorite place to eat is here at home.
What 2 things can you not live without?
My wife-to-be and my camera.
What would you do if you won $1 million?
Pay off our house and buy another piece of property where we can become semi-farmers; permaculturist; and maybe have my own gallery. Then I'd like to travel the world!
If you could change one thing about yourself, it would be...
To listen more.
You are granted one wish. What is it?
To have Southern Living just once freakin' publish my damn photos!!
The best thing about South Walton is....
The natural beauty that inhabits this area!
What is the greatest love in your life?
I'm not going to answer on the grounds it'll make me sound like a wet and sappy noodle, but I'm sure you guess what it might be from my previous answer.
What are the most important qualities in a friend?
Honesty ... and laughter.
Would you say happiness is found or made?
That's a black and white answer and I don't believe that anything is black or white. Happiness can be found in a discovery.....but I also believe in the adage that things can be what you make them.
