Local resident Shane Carter, one-half of the wickedly talented
professional photography duo Marla and Shane of Marla and Shane
Photography in Blue Mountain Beach, specializes in color and black and white family beach portraiture. Shane's work is stunning - he has the gift of capturing families enjoying each other and making lasting memories in our slice of paradise. Marla and Shane really are a dynamic duo in the world of photography and I will not be surprised when they both rise to the top in their profession.
From Marla and Shane's website: "Together, Marla and Shane Carter are shaking up the world of portrait photography along the 30-A corridor....While Shane loves beach photography and Marla favors black and white portraits of children, their shared philosophy of keeping it real allows them to capture timeless images that will be cherished for generations."
I caught up with Shane for this week's SoWalScene.com Q&A. Enjoy!

How long have you lived in South Walton? You were born and raised in....?
We will have lived here exactly 5 years on Memorial Weekend. I moved here after spending 10 years in Galveston, TX. I was born in Tulsa and raised in Coweta, Oklahoma. (home of the "Fighting Tigers"!).

You already live at the beach - where do you vacation?
We love it so much here in South Walton that we spent our most recent family vacation at Alys Beach. During the Fall you can bet I'll make at least one trip to Oklahoma for deer season. Given the chance I'm always up for an adventure "south of the border". There is much fun to be had in Mexico and Central America!
What book(s) is on your nightstand?
Okay... moving on to number 4.
If you were to come back as someone else, who would you be?
I'm happy with the way things are going just being myself. Given the chance I'd probably pass on trying to fill a different pair of shoes. Of course I'd love to have a couple of "do-overs" on a few decisions/actions ... but who wouldn't?
What is your single greatest achievement so far?
WOW! That's a big one! Life is wonderful, my family is beautiful, I love my job, friends are everywhere, I live in paradise. I'm blessed... whatever I did to gain God's favor to this extent is my greatest achievement!.
What is your favorite restaurant in South Walton?
I'm always a sucker for lunch at "Smiling Fish"... George is great! Lately we've been hooked on "Fire" as well. I love to get the day started with a big bowl of oat groats from Jen at "Raw and Juicy".
What 2 things can you not live without?
My daughter and son... my kids. If I could choose three I'd add coffee to the list, and deer season, and Marla too (yea seriously... I didn't just add her because I felt like I had to).
What would you do if you won $1 million?
I'd pay the taxes and then get dinner and a movie.
If you could change one thing about yourself, it would be...
It would probably be great for everyone if I was just a tad bit more patient and less obnoxious. :)
You are granted one wish. What is it?
You can have my wish.
The best thing about South Walton is....
The beach, the bay, the lakes, the forest, the people, the opportunity, the communities, the lifestyle... seriously, how can you pick just one thing!
What is the greatest love in your life?
God, family, country.
What are the most important qualities in a friend?
Dependability, honesty, trustworthiness. It's an extra perk if they like to hunt, fish, surf, fight, shoot and or talk tons of trash.
Would you say happiness is found or made?
I believe happiness is chosen. When things are going great it's easy to "choose to be happy". When life gets tough I really have to make a conscious choice. I can choose to be happy for what I had, what I have, or what I will receive. Thanks to Andy Andrews and Joel Olsteen for teaching me this!
