How long have you lived in South Walton?
I have lived in South Walton for 14 years and worked in South Walton for 7 years before moving here.
Where did you move from?
I lived in Destin before my move to South Walton but was only there for 7 years.
Why South Walton?
I was delivering dive equipment with a friend and first saw South Walton in the 70's. I fell in love with the area and made a promise to myself I would one day live here.
Tell us all about Adopt-A-Dog. What is the mission?
The rescue of animals awaiting euthanasia and homeless canines struggling for existence, to rehabilitate canines and place in homes and to encourage and educate the community in humane treatment of canines and the importance of spay/neuter.
When did you open?
I have been involved with rescue for many years in Walton County. I was going to quit doing rescue in March of 2000. Two weeks after I quit I can a phone message that 2 puppies had been dumped in a neighborhood, that started it all back up again.
Where are you located?
We do not have a location. We are a network of foster homes.
Do you only handle rescued dogs?
We occasionally help with cats. I am one those people who slam on there brakes if they see a turtle trying to cross the street.
Tell us what you need for Adopt-A-Dog.
Adopt A Dog desperately needs foster homes. If we do not have foster homes we can not save lives. I have had many a sleepless night worrying about dogs I knew that were going to be euthanized because I did not have a foster home for them.
How people can contact you to help.
The best way to contact me is through email: adoptadog@myway.com or you can try my cell phone (850) 585-9780.
What is your favorite thing to do in South Walton on a day off?
That is funny because I never really have a day off. I have five dogs of my own, a 14 year old cockatiel, a husband, a home, a huge yard, Adopt A Dog to run, I help take care of my mother who has dementia and I do senior bingo for the residents at the assisted care my mother lives in.
My life is very full. I enjoy all of the above but that does not mean I don't take some down time. I don't go out much but I do enjoy as much as I can of our beautiful area. I live on the bayou so even if I am not out and about I am very content being at home, with my family.
