OK, OK. I am aware that, somewhat recently, I did a Beach Eats Beat on JamBone. And, yes - I am also aware that we have many fabulous eateries and restaurants in our presence, all deserving some attention on this site as well. FYI, I have a few other restaurants I've visited in the Beach Eats Beat queue so stay-tuned. That said, I just had to give Scott Alderson and crew another plug - a Beach Bite plug this time around - after my heavenly 35-minute brunch with one of my boys at JamBone on a recent Saturday morning. Just had to!
Although my number one reason for lovin' this hardwood joint is because their BBQ rocks my world, the second reason I'm smitten is because you are given permission to swing in for a quick bite OR linger around for hours to watch a game or hang with a group of friends. No one there scooting you out the door to turn a table and no glances from anyone if you have consumed your meal like a famished animal and are gone within 10 minutes. It's a come-as-you-are kind of joint. LOVE that.
So - we hit the Bone Brunch the first weekend it was offered and
arrived at around 10:20a.m. Advertised as starting at 10a.m., the
staff was still finding their new schedule groove and weren't ready for
us but, one to always go with the flow, it gave me time to snap a few
photos and for my son and I to grab a little one-on-one talk time with
no distractions, a rare opportunity indeed.
When the register was finally up and running, I ordered the Pulled Pork Benedict which comes with a side of Roesti Browns ($8.95), my son a Pulled Pork Plate with a side of Roesti Browns ($3) and a Biscuit ($1.50). In JamBone fashion, they offer an eclectic sauce choice; here, five different hollandaise sauces for your Eggs Benedict: Classic, Asia, BBQ, Citrus and Chipotle. I opted for the Classic.
And - brace yourself - they offer nine - yes nine - different Benedicts priced from $7.95-$9.95: Pulled Pork, Sliced Brisket, Pulled Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Fried Snapper, Boneless Ribs, Chorizo, Country Sausage and Apple Smoked Bacon.
If Eggs Benedict is not your thing, they offer House Ground Country Sausage biscuits and gravy ($7.95), a whole bunch of sides, AND their full regular menu. If you leave hungry, it's your own d*** fault.
To top it off, they will have a Bloody Mary Bar and "Endless" Mimosas for those that need some hair on the dog or just want to get giddy on the weekend.
How was my Pulled Pork Benedict?
Let's just say, once placed in front me, I completely forgot that I
had planned to take a picture BEFORE
digging in (not after I had eaten
half my plate so that the pictures I did take look horrible) and we
were done within, oh, 10 minutes. Tops. It was, hands down, the
best non-traditional Eggs Benedict I've ever eaten. Two servings of
perfectly poached egg sat atop nice mounds of
my-favorite-pulled-pork- in-the-world which sat atop a fluffy biscuit
half and it was all covered in a velvety hollandaise and sprinkled with
scallions. Although my heart and arteries cursed at my choice, it made
the chef in me weep.
The side of Roesti Browns left a lot to be desired - they were a unappetizing-looking mound of greasy, mushy, dark colored potatoes. I'm anxious to see if this was just a first day foul or if that is the intended preparation?
No worries - my Bennies more than made up for it.
JamBone is located at 3906 US HWY 98 West in Santa Rosa Beach. Don't bother calling them as they don't answer their phone. You can see their menu at www.jambone.net.
